Expansion joints are often avoided because of aesthetic reasons but let’s be honest, with tears in your expensive marble tile floor, you have much bigger problems! Most of these homes have marble floors which are subject to cracking if there are no provisions made for underfloor expansion. In large, luxury homes, expansion joints are a must. My advice: when you work with larger floor surfaces (40 square meters+), always use expansion joints. This is what will happen if you do not use expansion joints.
